1. Indian Coast Guard Day:

An important date to remember in February is Indian Coast Guard Day, which is celebrated on February 1 every year. Today marks the Raising Day of the Indian Coast Guard.

Indian Coast Guard, established on 1 February 1977, is a maritime armed force under the Ministry of Defence. Rajnath Singh is currently serving as the Defense Minister of India.

2. World Wetlands Day:

World Wetlands Day is an important international day celebrated on February 2 every year to raise public awareness about the vital importance of wetlands to the environment and climate change. This day marks the date of adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1971 in Iran, celebrated since 1997.

3. Rheumatoid Awareness Day

4. Surajkund Crafts Mela:

Surajkund Crafts Mela is the world’s largest handicrafts and handloom festival held in February every year in Faridabad, Haryana. It is a unique festival celebrated with a different theme every year to promote handicrafts and handlooms made by artisans across the country. Artisans from all over the world come here to showcase their diverse cultures and talent. Haryana Tourism and Surajkund Mela Authority jointly organize this fair.

The theme state for the year 2023 is “India’s Ashtalakshmi – North Eastern Region”. The eight states are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

The 35th Surajkund Mela 2023 will be held from February 3 to 19.

5. World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is an important health day observed on the 4th of February every year to reduce cancer deaths, raise public awareness about cancer, and promote its prevention, detection and treatment. It originated at the World Summit Against Cancer held in Paris on this day in 2000 at the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) initiative.

7. National Day of Sri Lanka

8. Kala Ghoda Arts Festival:

Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is India’s largest street art festival that attracts a large number of tourists and enthusiasts from all over the country and the world. It is a 9-day annual festival organized at the Kala Ghoda Arts District in South Mumbai to maintain and preserve the heritage of the Kala Ghoda region. This festival is celebrated every year from the first Saturday to the second Sunday of February in various categories like children, music, literature, heritage walks, cinema, art exhibitions etc.

This year Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is being held online from 4 to 12 February 2023.

9. International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation:

International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation is an annual United Nations-sponsored day on February 6 to raise awareness and eradicate FGM. It was first introduced in 2003.

The theme of the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation for 2023 is “Partnership with Men and Boys to transform Social and gender Norms to End FGM.”

10. International Development Week:

International Development Week has been celebrated in Canada since 1991 on the first full week of February. Every year a large number of Canadians participate in this unique tradition. It was introduced in Canada to inform, inspire and engage Canadians in Canada’s international development and to eradicate poverty and create peace.

International Development Week 2023 runs from 5 to 11 February.

11. Safer Internet Day:

Safer Internet Day has been celebrated on the second day (Tuesday) in the second week of February every year since 2004 to create and maintain a safer Internet world and educate people about online issues such as cyberbullying.

This year Safe Internet Day will be observed on February 7, 2023.

12. World Pulses Day:

It is observed on February 10 every year to raise public awareness about the importance of pulses for health and to increase their sustainable production with the aim of promoting food security and nutrition.

World Pulses Day 2023 will be celebrated under the theme “Pulses for a Sustainable Future.”

13. International Day of Women and Girls in Science:

14. National Deworming Day:

National Deworming Day is celebrated on February 10 every year under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It is an awareness campaign for all preschool and school children aged 1 to 19 years about worm infection and treatment of intestinal worms by teachers and Anganwadi workers.

Worm infection or helminth infection is an infection of human intestines. Children between the ages of 1-14 years in India are at risk of developing worm infections.

15. World Unani Day:

This day marks the birth anniversary of renowned Unani physician Hakeem Ajmal Khan, which is celebrated as World Unani Day from 2017.

16. Darwin Day:

Darwin Day is celebrated on February 12, Charles Darwin’s birthday, for his immense contribution to science and to promote science in general. He was a naturalist known as the father of evolution who introduced the theory of evolution by natural selection known as Darwin’s theory of evolution.
